Traffic concerns are preventing the immediate re-opening of Queensbury tip – a meeting has been told.

At a meeting of Bradford Council’s Executive on Tuesday, Coun Rebecca Poulsen (Cons, Worth Valley) asked when the final two tips would open.

Steve Hartley, director of Place, said there had been a huge number of visitors to the tips since they re-opened – often leading to large queues of traffic outside the centres.

He said the Queensbury tip would open in the “near future” adding: “We just have to come up with a traffic management plan that will work.

“We’ve had to be very inventive – we used the school near Dowley Gap for traffic management when that centre opened.”

He said Sugden End would be the last waste centre to reopen due to the site being in a “difficult position” to manage traffic – the tip is on busy Halifax Road.

Mr Hartley added: “We hope there will be a slow down in the number of people coming to these household waste sites soon, and that we’ll be able to open them without there being long queues.”
